Canadiens extend win streak to 13 with 13-1 win over Rangers

“It just shows how good of hockey we’re playing right now,” says Head Coach of the St Paul Canadiens, Joe Young, of the teams 13-1 win over the Vegreville Rangers.  “The way that we’re playing defense, it’s transitioning into real-good offense and a real rounded game.”

Offense was on fire again on Wednesday evening, fighting back from a mid-period Vegreville goal from Cory WozniakBraydon Burak with Kona Jackson and Morgan Greve responded before the close of the first and the team didn’t let down for the remaining 40.

The second started with back-to-back goals from Cam Smyl to propel the Canadiens to a 3-1 lead, followed by a goal from Brayden Goulet, fed by Morgan Greve, to close the period 4-1.

“What I liked the most, is that even when the game was getting a little out of hand, score-wise, we kept playing hard and we didn’t back down,” some teams, explains Coach Young, have a habit of letting bad habits creep in; but that never happened (to us).”

Firing squad was the best way to describe the third period. Rangers goalie, Dylan Cikaliuk, who had took 45 shots in the first 40 minutes of play was replaced by Jaden Saik who took 29 shots in the third, nine of which went deep in the net. Scoring for the Habs in the third was,  Jared MaloBrayden GouletZach SylvestreElias ChaulkArron Gagne and Isaac Porozni & Dyson Roy each had two goals. (In case you’re wondering, Canadiens goalie, Tyler Kwiatkowski, had ONE shot in 60 minutes of play)

“We played for the full 60 minutes,” Coach Young says that’s one of the most important elements to the game, “if we come out and play the full 60 we’re going to win. I don’t think if you’re up on a team that should dictate your play. That’s what we’ve been doing and that’s why we’ve been getting success.”

Canadiens play Friday night at the Clancy Richard Arena, puck drops at 8:00 pm against the Vermilion Tigers. WIN tickets on LCN!
