Annual Santa’s Helpers Campaign about to Begin

The Lac La Biche Firefighter’s Society is preparing for another big weekend for the community to enjoy, and to kick off their Santa’s Helpers campaign at the same time.
Committee head and Firefighter’s Society past-president, Chris Clark, says the group raises money and collects toys each Christmas, and then food hampers will be provided for 110 families and toys for more than 200 kids. In order to do so, a fundraising goal of $20,000 has been set.

“With the impact the downturn in the economy has had on residents of Lac La Biche, we rely on donations to help those in need with food and toys over the holidays,” Clark said.
As part of this year’s event, a live radiothon will be held on Big Dog 103.5 from 6am to 4pm on Friday, December 2nd. Monetary donations and new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Big Dog office, and pledges will be accepted at 780-623-3744.Toy donation boxes have also been set up at Home Hardware, Your Dollar Store with More, Smiley’s, Ace Hardware, Value Drug Mart, and Britton’s Your Independent Grocer.
The Santa Claus Parade will then follow with parade staging at 5:30pm in the empty lot and alley by The Bargain Shop. The parade begins at 6:30 and will go from ATB Financial to Northern Lights Public Schools. A 36 foot Christmas tree will be lit, along with carol singing, bannock & tea, hot chocolate, and candy canes. Parade entries can be submitted
online.
The tree will be lit by Lac La Biche’s Junior Citizen of the Year. They will also ride with Santa in the parade, receive a profile in the Lac La Biche Post and on Big Dog 103.5, and receive recognition from Lac La Biche County Mayor Omer Moghrabi. A formal announcement of the Junior Citizen of the Year is expected in the coming days.
