Mom’s Place
I have to admit, I was a bit reluctant to check out this place. It’s not often that a small cafeteria style establishment is able to offer anything that is gluten free; however, I was pleasantly surprised. As we entered just before lunch time, there were two tables of diners. The service is cafeteria style but the bonus of this is that the cook is right there and able to address any requests. I would suggest one change to the service area. The silverware is in a bus tray for customers to help themselves to. It would be more sanitary if the silverware was wrapped so that the customers will only touch the napkins.
I ordered an omelette and was offered gluten free toast with it. The omelette came with homemade chips which were wonderful, crisp and golden, spiced with some seasoning salt. Yum! The omelette was good, however, the mushrooms in it were canned rubber.
Jan ordered a burger with home fries. The burger was just a supplier product, but it was well cooked and done to his requests. He enjoyed his home fries as much as I enjoyed the chips.
We watched many customers come in for the soup and to grab homemade bread. Sigh… I was envious! This is their strong selling point.
Our food was served at the table and refills of our coffee. Service was good.
The atmosphere here was definitely cafeteria, but the friendly service and the smell of fresh bread makes up for it!
Service 3.5 out of 5
Atmosphere 3.5 out of 5
Food 4 out of 5
I declare Mom’s Place the best place for homemade fries and chips in the area! Someone let me know how great the soup and bread is….
