Huge win on Sunday at Imperial Oil Place

The Cold Lake Jr B Ice bounced back from a home and home pair of losses. earlier this week, to the Wainwright Bison, to cap the week off with a healthy win over the Frog Lake T-Birds. Perhaps, even a bigger accomplishment, considering last time the Ice met the T-Birds they fell 10-4. Head Coach for the Cold Lake Ice, Scott Hood says the club show up to win and that’s exactly what they accomplished.

“It starts with the effort,” Coach Hood explains he’s been hammering into the squad this week that you get out what you put in. “We tried and we played well. We were getting pucks deep, we were getting through traffic, we got some shots and obviously, we scored some goals.”

Kicking off the scoring was captain Curtis Witney just 45 seconds into the game from Donavan Bibeau  and Jacob Bartman. The Ice scored three more goals in the first from, Coltan BuchtaDarian Hartley, and Tyson Logan.

The T-Birds were able to respond to the 4-0 deficit 35 seconds into the second period with a goal from Brandon Cunningham. However, the power trio of  Guillaume St-GeliasWitney  and Bartman wouldn’t let the Frog Lake bench celebrate for too long, before opening that gap back to a 4 goal lead. The Ice head out of the second up 5-1 on the T-Birds.

“It feels good to get some wins on the power play,” big defenseman, for the Ice, Guillaume St-Gelias on taking advantage of the extra man and netting two points off an assist in the first and a goal in the second.

The third period started out much like the second with a goal from Frog Lake’s Cunningham, followed up by an Ice goal from Hartley with Mikhail Desjarlais on the assist. Frog Lake’s final goal came in from Courage Omeasoo, answered before the close of the game by Desjarlais with assists to Curtis Gullackson and  St-Gelias.

Heading into this week’s practices, Hood says he’ll be working with the guys to stay sharp, “we have two games coming up next weekend, in Saddle Lake Friday and home to St. Paul on Saturday. It’ll be nice to take home two wins and climb in the standings. We’re going to stay fresh and keep the guys nice and ready.”
