Poor Conditions set off Construction Schedule

MD asks Ardmore residents to be patient as contractors attempt to finish road work

Director of Transportation for the Municipal District (MD) of Bonnyville, Darcy Zelisko, presents MD Council with an update on the 2016 road construction projects on Wednesday; including where the Ardmore road project is.

“We have a couple of patch trucks out there, that are still trying to fill things; while the weather is holding.” Due to a cold October and early snow fall, then wet conditions as of late, construction has been pushed back further than anticipated, explains Zelisko. “Surface works, deficiencies, on the paving will be addressed in the spring. What we had there was segregated sections on the Ardmore surface work, cracked sidewalks.”

“The underground in Ardmore, we’ve been in touch with the consultants and contractors. Urlacher  is still in there trying to do lay work, as best we can,” Zelisko expresses that the weather has not been helpful in completing these projects. “With the moisture that we’ve had and the weather we’ve had, sometimes we’re doing more harm than good trying to be out there.”

“Be patient,” Zelisko says the MD is doing all they can to get the roads completed, “we need things to dry up or freeze. If a 2000 lbs car is making ruts, then you can image a 40,000 lb truck is making a lot of ruts.”

The street construction in Ardmore, compounded by wet weather, has created some challenges for the crew emptying waste carts. Staff are picking up the carts manually in soft muddy areas. If residents have been missed, please call the Agriculture & Waste Department at 780-826-3951 for pick up. Once the cold weather sets in, and construction halted, the crew will be back to its regularly scheduled pick-ups.
