BCHS supports a Fair Ethical Market with Annual Coffee House
Holiday shopping on an ethical mind
The Bonnyville Centralized High School (BCHS) will be hosting their annual Coffee House on Wednesday evening. The event highlights products from free and ethical markets for purchase; including the famous Ten Thousand Villages Coffee.
Grade 11 student and organizer, Hannah Bouvier, says the event is to help raise money for third world vendors, “we cut out the middle man so more money goes back to the artisans. Most of the products are from third world countries or less-developed countries.” Some products include; fair trade sports balls, pashminas, ornaments, trinkets and coffee.

Each year the students choose one ornament to help raise money for a specific cause, explains Bouvier, “this year we’re doing sustainability for the country of Tanzania.” For 2016 the students have picked a man fishing, suiting the age-old adage “you can give a man to fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime,” Bouvier says the ornament was specifically chosen to display sustainability.
The event, held on Wednesday the 9th, at BCHS is open from 5:30-9:00 pm for shoppers. There is a $5.00 admission charge that includes one coffee, one dessert and access to the marketplace.
