CLFN Studying affects of Moose Consumption
New study looks at toxins in moose organs
Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN) is looking for persons who regularly consume moose, its meat and organs. As well as anyone who may have moose organs available to study. The survey will look at three factors; 1. how many people are consuming moose 2. what (if any) affects consumption of moose meat and organs has on the public 3.level of toxins in moose meat and organs.
People who regularly consume moose meat should not be worried that there are necessarily high toxins in the meat. The study is more intended for discovery. When consuming organs, a person should always be aware, especially when it comes to liver, that there will be higher levels of toxins in organs than meat. Organs are considered a delicacy and due to the level of toxins, should not be consumed everyday.
One of the most important factors of the study is to determine how much moose meat CLFN’s people are eating. The Consultation department is inviting all current and past hunters to participate in the survey. The results will remain anonymous and could help with determining the long-term health factors of moose consumption. CLFN invites adults, youths and elders to participate in the second half of the survey to determine the effects of the moose consumption.
If you are interested in participating or you would like some more information, contact the CLFN Consultation Department via Facebook.
