Luke Tournier Takes Night 1 in Bonnyville

After a two week break and a successful run at the Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby, the WPCA Pro Tour resumed on Bonnyville with the ninth running of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship. It was a very pleasant evening for a near capacity crowd, and when night one wrapped up, after an appeal, it was defending Bonnyville Champion Luke Tournier who had the best time on the night after a penalty free run of 1:15.11

It was initially thought that Cody Ridsdale and Mike Vigen had split top money on the night, but during the appeal process, Tournier’s original two-second penalty was removed giving him top time on the night, 42 one-hundredths of a second faster than Vigen and Ridsdale who now had to settle for a split of second and third. Vern Nolin placed fourth and Rae Croteau Jr., who is driving in his last show rounded out the top five on the night.

The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Sunday’s run will be declared the champion of the 2016 Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship and will receive the George Normand Memorial Buckle.

Day 2 of the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship  Friday, July 22, at 6:30pm, rodeo to follow. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
