Update on Cold Lake & Lac La Biche Robbery Cases

Cold Lake RCMP report that they have received a high number of tips and are following up on leads in regards to the three robberies that occurred in a 20 minute period on July 8th in the city. Police are also working with the Lac La Biche Detachment on a case involving a robbery and shots fired at a police officer on July 11th.

S/Sgt Jeremie Landry, with the Cold Lake RCMP says they have determined the cases are connected, “we’ve determined that at least one youth involved in the Lac La Biche shooting was also involved in the Cold Lake [robberies].” Landry suspects there will be an official update on both cases within 24 hours. “We are working on determining the identity of the youths.”

There may be one more case linked to the robberies, but RCMP have not determined with a clear certainty that it is related. However, details on the third incident are similar to the other two cases, says S/Sgt Landry. On Saturday, July 9th, Cold Lake RCMP were called to the Cold Lake First Nations Treaty Grounds where a 16 year old male from Cold Lake was victim to a bear spraying. RCMP are waiting on a statement from the victim to see if it’s related to the other two cases. Because this incident involved pepper spray and youth there is a a chance it may be related to the two robbery cases.
