No Injuries after Elderly Man Drives into Staples Cold Lake

Cold Lake RCMP Detachment S/Sgt Jeremie Landry says the investigation into the car crash at Staples,  where a vehicle ran into the exterior wall of the business, has been concluded without charges.

“On June 29th, at 4:30 pm, we received a complaint that an elderly male had just driven his car into the front door of Staples.” RCMP and EMS attended the scene, where no injuries were found.

“We determined that there was no criminal wrong-doing. It could’ve been age and/or medical or a combination of both.” The driver involved in the accident was an 88 year old male, from Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

S/SGt Landry could not speak to this specific case; however he says that if the RCMP feel a driver is a danger to the public and should no longer be driving, whether that’s due to age, medical, or otherwise, RCMP will flag the licence and the driver will have to be retested. S/Sgt Landry was not involved in this specific case, and it is not indicated in the file that the driver’s licence is in need of review; which doesn’t necessarily mean that it the driver will not be retested.
