LCSD Raises $40,000 for Habitat for Humanity
As a result of our Social Justice Project: Sowing Seeds of Justice, Lakeland Catholic School District (LCSD) raised $40,000.00 for Habitat for Humanity. “As a result of this effort and a number of sponsors including ATB Financial, Canadian Natural and Lafarge, a family in need of affordable housing in our region will have their prayers answered,” says Amanda Wildman, Communications Officer for LCSD
Wildman explains this was a district-wide initiative, “all of our students and staff have been involved in all seven schools and our Central Services team.” Wildman says the lessons the students learned through the Social Justice Program and the Habitat for Humanity project are invaluable and will be carried with the for the rest of their lives. “The students learned to be more aware of those in need, and they were able to learn that they can make a difference that impacts these people’s lives.”
“A home is much more than just a house. Owning a home fosters stability, security and a sense of pride.” Wildman hopes the family of the home will prosper in the same ways LCSD did by the house. “The Social Justice Project is called Sowing Seeds of Justice. This has been a two-year initiative across the District involving all students and staff. The justice activities include acts of charity, service and prayer.”
“A number of fundraising activities have taken place as part of this.” Wildman explains the students, staff, and district administration have put in a lot of hard work, love and care into the project and are happy to celebrate the groundbreaking.
Wildman says for not this is the only Habitat for Humanity project planned, however the Social Justice Program will continie, “we do not have plans in place for another Habitat for Humanity Build at this time. We do have plans to continue with the Social Justice Program.”
