MD Hopes to Deter Messy Campers with Higher Fines

The Municipal District (MD) of Bonnyville is hoping to deter campers from leaving camping stalls littered and messy. Last week MD Council  a new, updated, Parks Bylaw that reflects current issues and existing practices. It replaces a bylaw passed in 1985.

The format was updated and fine amounts were increased to provide a deterrent against violations. The person who rents the campground stall is now responsible for everything that happens in that stall.

Penalties are now in place for such violations as:

  • Open Liquor in a Public Place – $200 fine
  • Interfere with the quiet/enjoyment of a park –  $400 fine
  • Return to M.D. Park after eviction – $500 fine
