On May 27th at 4:50 pm the Cold Lake RCMP received calls from a citizen who had observed his stolen vehicle pass his, in the opposite direction, on Highway 28, east of Cold Lake. The vehicle the man was traveling in, turn around and proceeded to chase down the stolen vehicle.
It was during this pursuit an accident occurred, when the vehicle chasing the thief ran a white minivan off the road. The minivan was traveling with a family inside. Police and emergency crews were called to the scene, near Cherry Grove; luckily no one was injured. During the accident the first vehicle fled the scene; however, police caught up with it a short time later.
An 18 year old Cold Lake man has been arrested for possession of property obtained by a crime. The identity of the man arrested has not been released, as details from the court file were not available at the time of the report to media. The man’s identity will be released to the public following his July 13th, 2016 court appearance at Cold Lake Provincial Court.
