Get Your Engines Revvin’ Saturday for the Annual Car Show in Elk Point
A wide array of automobiles will be on display, Saturday in Elk Point, as the annual Elk Point Auto club takes over main street. The event attract car enthusiasts from all over the region and some pretty supped up cars. President of the club, Ed Smith, says the show is for any make or model of vehicle; if you love it – show it off!
“W’ve had quite a variety [of automobiles over the years]. We’ve had model 7s and Model Ts, they made those from 1907-1927, there’s a lot of different models of those.” Smith explains because of the relaxed atmosphere at the Elk Point show, many use this show as the first of the season. “We’ve had a brick one, that car was made in New Bruinswick.” Any thing goes at the show, says Smith, “we’re not an antique club, we’re an auto club, so you can bring any model or year.” Smith says there’s even a member who built and flies his own helicopter and he will be bringing it to the event (weather permitting). “We have another fella who has a stationary engine. Those are the early engines that powered farm grinders, silo; we used them on the elevators. It’s a quite a guy that collects and re-builds these engines. He’s a very talented fella and a great addition to our club.
No pre-registration necessary, show up between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm tomorrow in Elk Point, first come-first serve selection of parking. “If a person has a car, and they’re proud of it, they want to display it, they’re welcome,” Smith extends the invite to all. Judging is all “People’s Choice” style, where viewers fill out ballots with their favourite automobile on it. The vehicle with the most votes in each category will receive a commemorative plague.
