Two NLSD students chosen for Skills Canada National Competition
Northern Lights School Division would like to congratulate Hannah Rosenkranz from J.A. Williams High School and Austin Rehman-Stenz from Cold Lake High School on being selected to attend the Skills Canada National Competition in Moncton, NB next week.
Hannah and Austin earned gold medals at the North East Regional Skills Canada Competition in March. They advanced to Provincials, but that competition was cancelled due to the venue, the Edmonton Expo Centre, being designated as an Evacuation Centre for Fort McMurray residents. Instead, a lottery process was used to select who would advance to Nationals.
“This is an amazing opportunity for our students to showcase their skills and compete against students from across Canada,” said Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk. “We wish Hannah and Austin all the best as they compete in Moncton.”
The Skills Canada National Competition takes place in Moncton from June 5 to 8. More than 500 students from across Canada will take part in over 40 skilled trade and technology competitions.
Hannah will compete in the two-day baking competition, during which she will have to bake bread and buns, two kinds of cookies, two kinds of French pastries, and a cake with the theme “One Thousands and One Night.”
Austin will make pork tenderloin, mussels Provençale, fish chowder and a cake as part of the two-day culinary arts competition.
