Bonnyville RCMP Arrest 48 Yr Old for Possession of Meth & 10 other offenses
On May 7th, 2016 at approximately 9:30 PM, a constable with the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment was conducting proactive patrols and observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Hwy 657 near Kehewin, AB. The constable noted that the vehicle was not up to vehicle equipment regulation standards and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who was not the registered owner, did not have a driver’s license or any other ID on him therefore he was detained for identification purposes and would be placed in police vehicle.
Search incidental to detention revealed methamphetamine in the male’s pocket. The male was then advised that he was under arrest and he became aggressive. A fight ensued between him and the officer and during the struggle, the male grabbed the baggie of drugs and swallowed it. After the officer was able to control and handcuff the male he was placed in the back of a police vehicle where he was advised of his rights before he was taken to the Bonnyville Hospital. The male refused medical treatment for the ingested drugs, believed to be between 1/4 and 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine. The male was then lodged into the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment cellblock.
Information obtained from this arrest allowed police to obtain a search warrant for the male’s residence which resulted in police seizing numerous exhibits including loaded firearms, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, stolen property and drugs. Further police checks on male revealed that he was bound by a firearms prohibition along with being suspended from driving.
