Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority Chief Brian McEvoy, is in contact with the Province to come up with a course of action and to display to the Emergency Operations Centre that a lot of people have chosen to self-evacuate from Fort McMurray to the Bonnyville area.
“A lot of people have self-evacuated to our area, from Fort McMurray and it’s putting pressure on the municipality.” As McEvoy explains it, this will put pressure on the Provincial government to do something to relieve people evacuated in our area and send resources to Bonnyville. McEvoy says now the Anzacs has been evacuated the Province will need more municipalities to help house the over 88,000 displaced people coming from the north.
Although, nothing has been activated yet, McEvoy expects a clearer plan around 9:00 am. LCN will have an update later this morning.
St. Paul Regional Emergency Management has been activated as a reception centre at the Rec Centre. Redcross has urged any self-evacuated persons to contact the Redcross and let them know that they are okay and can be put on the safe list 1-800-418-1111.
