Tyler Chislett Fund Making Strides
Five months after founding the Tyler Chislett Mental Health Education Fund, Ann and Tim Chislett continue to be overwhelmed by the influx of support from the community. The Chisletts started the fund in memory of their late son Tyler, who they lost to suicide in 2015.
“Tyler was a good kid and a good student from a normal family. If it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone. We want to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and help families get the help they need,” Ann said.
The fund will be used to support additional mental health training for Bonnyville area physicians, EMS, RCMP, and other community workers. Local governments, health care professionals, school boards, and the mental health steering committee have already made major strides in improving mental health education and services in our community.
The latest contribution to the fund comes as a $3,713.84 cash donation from Lakeland Credit Union employees as part of their Care Wear program, which grants employees the privilege of casual Fridays in exchange for a $2 donation. Every 6 months the staff chooses a local charity to receive the accumulated funds.
“The credit union has always been a pillar of support for the hospital and the community,” said Ann as she and Tim thanked the staff and gratefully accepted the donation.
Canadian Mental Health Association 65th annual mental health weeks runs from May 2 – 8.
