NLSD offering French Language Summer School
Northern Lights School Division No. 69 is pleased to announce it will be running a French Language Enhancement Camp for NLSD students in the Cold Lake area this summer.
“A French language summer camp was one of the suggestions made by parents at our French Immersion consultations earlier this year and we thought it was a great way to promote and support second language learning in our schools,” said Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk.
The camp will run for two weeks in July – July 11-15 for students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 and July 18-22 for students in Grades 5 to 8. It will include French literacy, music, and culture, as well as arts and crafts, sports and outdoor recreation, cooking, and other activities. Registration forms are available at NLSD schools in Cold Lake. The deadline for registrations is May 13.
Creating a French language summer camp was one of six recommendations approved by the NLSD Board of Trustees following a consultation process with French Immersion parents and staff in Cold Lake. NLSD’s commitment to enhancing French Immersion programming in Cold Lake also includes centralizing the program at Art Smith Aviation Academy, supporting a bilingual Kindergarten option, and a public information campaign about the benefits of French Immersion.
Parents interested in enrolling their students in NLSD’s French Immersion program in are encouraged to contact Art Smith Aviation Academy at 780-594-1404 or visit the school’s website at www.artsmithacademy.ca.
