St. Paul RCMP Warn of Mailbox Thefts
The RCMP have seen an increase of break-ins to community mailboxes in the St. Paul area during the last several weeks. Canada Post offers the following advice on limiting impact of mail thefts:
- Collect your mail promptly after delivery.
- If you’re going to be away, contact Canada Post to hold your mail until you return.
- When you move, ensure you file a change of address promptly. Advise your banks and other companies of your new address as soon as possible.
- If bills or other expected documents fail to arrive within a reasonable time-frame, contact the respective companies for confirmation.
Canada Post is aware of the situation and are investigating new preventative and security options for the rural boxes. If you see a suspicious person or activity around a community mail-box, contact the RCMP with the time, location, and description of what you have seen. If you have any information regarding these or other break-ins please contact the St. Paul RCMP at (780) 645-8870 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. For further mail security related inquiries, Contact Canada Post at 1-866-607-6301 or www.canadapost.ca.
