St. Paul Jr B Canadiens Set to Host 2017 Provincials

The St. Paul Jr B Canadiens have been selected to host the Alberta Jr B Provincials in 2017. Head Coach Joe Young says the club is excited to showcase the best of Alberta in St. Paul.

“We put in a bid about a month ago,” says Young, “it was us and Lloyd up against each other, and Hockey Alberta voted and gave it to us for 2017!”

The Canadiens have been playing the best season in recent years, sitting comfortably in third place in the NEAJBHL. Coach Young says Saturday’s win over Wainwright really solidified with the team that they can beat any team in the league and Alberta. “It was really intense,” Young explains the Canadiens got out to a quick lead in the game 2-0, “but nothing is really safe against [the Bison], they’re a really good hockey club. They scored four unanswered goals, so we were down by two and we scored three goals, late in the third period to win it.” Saturday’s 6-5 win would be the first time the Canadiens’ have won on Wainwright ice in four years, since Coach Young has been with the team.

“It was, obviously, a real good feeling, and they guys were extremely happy with what they had accomplished,” Young says the guys should be proud, it was the first win against Wainwright this season. The Bison are top of the standings with 37 points, compared to the Candiens 30 points. “Everybody played the way they were supposed to, it was a lot of team effort, we had some physicality and used team speed, and we had a few breaks.”

Lloydminster will be in St. Paul for tonight’s match-up, Young says the guys are ready for a challenge, “it’s never easy when you play Lloyd, as a matter of fact, it’s never easy when you play anybody in this league anymore. It’s definitely not a free night or an easy two points. You have to be prepared.”

I like the way we’re taking to game to other teams, right now. We’re really aggressive. There’s no quit in my guys. Teams should know we’re gonna show up every night- Joe Young Head Coach St. Paul Canadiens
