MP David Yurdiga Releases Statement on Mosque Vandalism

In response to the Cold Lake Mosque being vandalized for the second time in a year, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray – Cold Lake, David Yurdiga has released the following statement via his official Facebook Page:

This morning I was saddened to hear that once again the Cold Lake Mosque was vandalized with the words “go home”. This attempt to intimidate Muslims in our community will not be tolerated. The Cold Lake community showed that when they responded to the last instance of hate with an outpouring of support for the Muslim community in Cold Lake.

The perpetrators of this crime don’t seem to understand that the Muslims in our community are just as at home as everyone else. In our region is the second oldest mosque in Alberta located in Lac La Biche. The Islamic community has been an integral part in building our region. Muslims are our neighbors, friends, and local volunteers. I think Mayor Copeland was right last year when he said that perhaps the vandal should reevaluate whether they belong in Cold Lake.

I hope the vandal is caught and I encourage anyone with information about the crime to contact the local police.

– David Yurdiga, Member of Parliment Fort McMurray – Cold Lake
