Elk Point Working with Neighbours for Grant Funding

The Town of Elk Point is working with neighbouring municipalities, the Town & County of St. Paul and summer Village of Horseshoe Bay, to secure Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) grants. The municipalities have previously worked together with the hope of securing funding for a new emergency radio system, this time they are looking into grants for Regional Occupational Health & Safety.

Councillor for the Town of Elk Point, Lorne Young, explains, “these are a series of grants that the County & Town of St. Paul, the summer Village of Horseshoe Bay and Elk Point are applying for jointly. There’s a variety of grants for a variety of things, this time is for staffing for Occupational Health and Safety supervision in the area.”

This is a joint project with the Regional Emergency Management manual that the municipalities are finalizing. The manual is a large document that outlines ever possible emergency scenario and how to handle the emergency with step-by-step procedures. There is everything from a flu epidemic, to a large winter storm, to a heavy hauler spill.

There are three grants available under ACP, says Young, “the third is a Crime Reduction program that we are looking at going after with the partners, and working with the RCMP, First Nations, and Metis Associations.”
