New High School in Bonnyville is NLSD Top Priority

Northern Lights School Division (NLSD) Board has set priorities they hope to achieve over the next three years. The main priority in the board’s capital plan will be a new high school in Bonnyville.

The idea behind the priorities list is somewhat like a Christmas list explains Communications Officer for NLSD, Nicole Garner, “it’s a wish list. We know we probably won’t get everything on the list, but we come up with what we’d really love to have and present it to the provincial government. They take the list and decided what, if anything we get.”

Garner notes that the divisions top priority had been a new elementary school in Cold Lake and were elated when they received approval for the build in the provincial budget last year. The board’s second priority was another high school in Bonnyville, which has now been moved to the top of the list.

The Board is very hopeful the government approves the build of the new school and approved a motion to approach the Town of Bonnyville about potential sites for a new high school.

Other priorities on the school’s list is placing a school in Buffalo Lake, a new entrance for the Cold Lake High School and upgrades to Iron River School.
