One male Seriously Injured in Two Vehicle Collision on Hwy 63

On Wednesday, August 27th, at 10:30 AM, approximately 25km north of Boyle a southbound pickup truck struck a northbound semi tractor trailer.  The impact caused the semi to burst into flames.  The driver of the semi was able to escape uninjured prior to the tractor becoming fully engulfed.  The driver of the pickup truck was extracted from the vehicle and airlifted to Edmonton by STARS in stable condition.

The semi tractor trailer was empty at the time of the collision and there were no immediate environmental or public safety concerns.
Traffic on Highway 63 was detoured for approximately four and a half hours while crews worked to extinguish the flames and remove the wreckage.
An RCMP Collision Analyst attended the scene.  Presently investigators are trying to determine exactly what lead to this incident but alcohol has been ruled out.   Charges pursuant to the Traffic Safety Act are being considered again the driver of the pickup truck.
This collision took place on an undivided portion of Highway 63 near Township Road 670.5.
Weather at the time of the collision was clear.
