**Release from The City of Cold Lake**

Construction has started on the first phase of a sewer project that will replace a lift station with a gravity sewer, taking pressure off of existing Cold Lake North infrastructure while also allowing for the servicing of future development.

The Forest Heights Sanitary Sewer Trunk Expansion is extending a new sanitary sewer trunk from the Forest Heights area to Imperial Park. The area is currently being served by an aging lift station that is nearing the end of its life-cycle.

“This project will eliminate the need to replace the lift station altogether, allowing for more efficient and cost-effective servicing of the area,” City of Cold Lake Chief Administrative Officer, Kevin Nagoya, said. “This should take the stress off of the sewer infrastructure in Cold Lake North and also allow for any future development in Forest Heights and the surrounding are to be serviced by the new line.”

Currently, the sanitary sewer system in Cold Lake North pumps sewage through a variety of lift stations to Building No. 9 in Cold Lake South. Building No. 9 then pumps the sewage to the lagoons south of the City.

The total cost of both phases of the sewer trunk expansion is $3.7 million.

“Gravity is more reliable than a lift station,” Nagoya added. “This upgrade will provide the City with a more robust sanitary sewer system that is also cheaper to maintain.”

During certain phases of the construction, access to the Cold Lake Motocross Club’s track, located just east of the City, will change. Road signs will direct the public as to how they may access the facility. For more information call City Hall at 780-594-4494 or email infrastructure@coldlake.com.
