Construction on the New Fire Hall in Cold Lake on Schedule
Construction on the Cold Lake Fire Hall, which broke ground in February of 2015, is running on schedule. The $12.7 million project will have 10 bays for fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and equipment.
Mayor of Cold Lake Craig Copeland says there’s a lot of pride behind the new building, “this fire hall is going to be a showcase building in the city.”
“It’s going to provide fire services and it’s going to be the home for the ambulances,” Mayor Copeland explains the many functions of the building, “if we ever had to do emergency management or disasters in The City of Cold Lake or area, it’s going to be the area where people are working out of.”
Mayor Copeland says The City is really happy with the general contractor, Krawford Construction, “the new fire hall is proceeding really well.”
A new training tower is being constructed as part of the fire hall and will be able to train new recruits and keep the active fire fighters up-to-date with their training. Cold Lake Fire-Rescue has 3 full-time personnel and 60 paid on call firefighters. The service operates two fire stations, the Lake District Station and the Downtown District Station. The new fire hall will replace the Downtown District Station, which was over 50 years old.
“The fire fighters deserve this,” states the Mayor, “they’ve been waiting a long time for it. We’re really happy to be providing them with that.” Mayor Copeland says it’s not just The City of Cold Lake that’ll benefit from the new hall, the fire fighters and emergency personnel also service the greater MD of Bonnyville area, along with Cold Lake.
“We’re really looking forward to having the Grand Opening,” proclaims Mayor Copeland. The Fire Hall is expected to be complete in mid to late spring of 2016. In the meantime, firefighters are using a temporary structure behind the construction site, along with space in the neighbouring FCSS building.
