The Town of Elk Point has Donated $15000 towards a New Park

A local group, made up of a family in Elk Point, The Staffords,  has been raising funds for the park on Centennial Drive for two years. Centennial Drive is an area with a lot of young families and children, so naturally there is a park located there, however, the park is in need of a complete overhaul and new equipment.

The family had lost their patriarch, Pete Stafford, to a heart attack 9 years ago on Christmas Day. Pete was known in the community for his involvement in recreation, so the family honours him each year with a fundraising golf tournament, For Pete’s Sake. Money raised from the tournament, which just held its 9th annual event on June 13th, 2015 at The Elk Point Golf Course, goes to a different charity. The last two years the tournament has raised $21,000 to benefit constructing the new park.

When The Town of Elk Point heard of the group raising money to complete the overhaul and purchase new equipment they wanted to help. The Town had agreed to work with the group and match any funds raised up to $15000.

The town came through on their promise on June 16th, 2015 and presented the group with the cheque. Along with funds raised over the past two years, proceeds from the For Pete’s Sake Memorial Golf Tournament, grants, and the donation from the town the group is over half way to their fundraising goal of $120000.

The group hopes to secure more grant funding through the Canada 150 Legacy Grants and be able to erect the park in 2016. For information on how you can help the group or donate funds contact Brandi Krankowsky at brandi_michelle@hotmail.com.
