A shooting occurred over the weekend in Bonnyville during an attempted vehicle theft.

On April 17, at 2:37 a.m., the Bonnyville RCMP were called to a residence in Bonnyville on 45th Avenue and 42nd Street to a report of an attempted vehicle theft.

“The investigation at this point revealed that when the owner of the vehicle confronted the individual, stealing his car, an altercation took place in which a firearm was discharged, striking the victim,” Media Relations Officer Cpl. Troy Savinkoff told Lakeland Connect. “The victim has been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The victim confronted a suspect and during the confrontation the victim was shot with a firearm. It is unclear what type of firearm this was or where the victim was shot.  The 33-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The suspects fled the area in a separate vehicle.

“We are requesting that people in the area, like we’re doing canvassing of the neighborhood, but we’re asking that if anybody has video surveillance of the streets around that time, so around that 2:30 a.m. time to please contact Bonnyville RCMP with any information if they can see anything,” Cpl. Savinkoff said.
