56 Street closed in Bonnyville due to downed power line

It’s a cold and windy day in the Lakeland which has caused a pole to almost topple over sending two power lines to the ground.

Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney says, “Station 5 Bonnyville responded at 9:45 a.m. to 56 Street and 54 Ave for a downed power line.”

“One pole leaning over the road and two lines are down on the road,” Fire Chief Heney told Lakeland Connect. “Atco Power is on scene and actively working on the issue.”

56 Street is currently barricaded at 53 Ave and 54 Ave, please avoid the area.

“Downed power lines are a true hazard as there is no guarantee the power has been cut until the power utility confirms it,” Fire Chief Heney concluded.
