Lakeland Humane Society receives huge support from #BettyWhiteChallenge

The Lakeland Humane Society received huge support in honour of Betty White on Monday.

A social media movement called the #BettyWhiteChallenge encouraged people to donate $5 to a rescue or animal shelter in White’s name, on what would have been the late actress’ 100th birthday, January 17.

“We are absolutely blown away by the support of this wonderful community,” The Lakeland Humane Society stated. “Through the huge influx of donations for the #BettyWhiteChallenge, a total of $3,045 was raised for the Lakeland Humane Society.”

Animal and Betty White lovers from across the Lakeland dipped into their pockets to remember the world’s Golden Girl.

The challenge, spurred on by the social media hashtag #BettyWhiteChallenge, encouraged fans to donate what they could to a local animal shelter on White’s birthday.

“Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone who donated,” the Lakeland Humane Society said. “It just goes to show that even small gestures really add up and can make a big impact. We know Betty would be proud.”
