Employment Opportunity: Strathcona Resources – Facilities Engineer – Lindbergh

Detailed Job Description

Strathcona is presently seeking an experienced full time Facility Engineer – Thermal Operations. Reporting to the Senior Facilities Manager in Calgary, this position supports the Lindbergh operation located in the Bonnyville, AB. The position is field based, and preference is that the successful candidate resides in or around the Bonnyville, AB area. This role will be responsible for:

  • Providing senior engineering support for the Lindbergh SAGD Central Processing Facility (CPF), which includes bitumen treating, water de-oiling, heat recovery, water treating, steam generation, and co-gen processes
  • Working closely with field Operations and the Calgary Engineering team to analyze and interpret data to recommend changes, troubleshoot and technically optimize plant processes, and improve reliability and runtime
  • Executing Management of Change (MOC) projects
  • Supporting large capital and facility expansion projects by working closely with stakeholders through the various project phases, including: Clearly defining the opportunity; Identifying project alternatives; Front end engineering design (FEED); Detailed engineering design; Construction execution, and; Commissioning/startup/handover to Operations
  • Making independent decisions in planning, organizing, and completing technical projects
  • Providing assistance with preparation for facility turnarounds
  • Leading Process Hazards Analysis and risk reviews for new Engineering, Operational, and MOC projects
  • Ensuring that facility projects satisfy HSE, regulatory, and compliance requirements
  • Supporting commissioning and project turnover activities, including pre-start up safety reviews (PSSR)
  • Completing failure, root cause, bad actor, and critical equipment analysis, including rotating equipment repair and optimization
  • Recommending changes to established project execution processes and procedures as part of ongoing continuous improvement initiatives
  • Providing technical recommendations on deviations from existing specifications
  • Performing calculations to identify upset process conditions and providing support to ensure that facility key performance indicator (KPI) targets are developed and achieved
  • Performing economic analyses as required
  • Providing leadership, supervision, mentoring and training as required
  • Evaluating new SAGD process technologies

Competencies and qualifications

  • An Engineering Degree in an applicable engineering discipline
  • At least 10 years of SAGD facilities experience
  • Process engineering experience is an asset
  • SAGD plant operations, process optimization, and equipment reliability experience is an asset
  • Teamwork, collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and communication
  • Open, honest, acts with integrity
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong computer, software, and data management skills
