Lakeland pharmacies can offer COVID-19 vaccines

Lakeland area pharmacies are offering COVID-19 vaccines at various sites.

Pharmasave in Bonnyville, Guardian Community Drug Mart in Cold Lake (Marina Mall), Shoppers Drug Mart in St. Paul and Vermilion, Crescent Drugs in Lac La Biche, Elk Point Pharmacy, Two Hills Pharmacy, and Shane’s IDA Pharmacy in Smoky Lake are among sites that are offering shots so far.

The provincial government announced an expansion of pharmacies available to administer Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

There are now 259 pharmacies in 107 communities offering the vaccine in Alberta.

In a release, the government said the number of participating pharmacies will keep increasing as more vaccine doses arrive, with up to 500 locations booking appointments by early April.

However, recent delays in Moderna shipments may impact some pharmacy appointments scheduled for the week of March 22.

Those eligible can book appointments by calling the participating pharmacies or through their online booking systems.

AHS will also continue to book appointments online and through 811.

Currently, individuals 65 to 74 years of age (born between 1956 and 1947), First Nations, Metis and Inuit people 50 years of age and older (born in 1971 or earlier), and staff and senior residents of licensed supportive living facilities not previously eligible can receive the vaccine.

This is phase 2A of the vaccine rollout plan.

No walk-ins for vaccines will be allowed, appointments must be booked beforehand.
