RCMP arrest two linked to stolen property crimes in the Lakeland

Local RCMP have arrested and charged two people linked to stolen vehicle and property investigations.

On Nov. 18, Cold Lake RCMP and the Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit recovered a stolen vehicle in the Cold Lake area.

Throughout the course of the investigation, RCMP members were able to recover approximately $22,000 in additional stolen property, associated to vehicle theft in Wainwright on Nov. 12, as well as a break and enter at the Rich Lake Fire Hall in rural Lac La Biche, which saw thousands of dollars worth of life-saving equipment stolen.

Members issued a warrant for Wyatt Whitford, 24, on Nov. 25 and Edmonton Police Service arrested him on Dec. 10.

He faces two charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Whitford was held for a bail hearing where he was released by a Justice of the Peace on a no cash release order with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on January 19, 2021.

Cody Raymond White (33) of Cold Lake was arrested and charged with the following offences in relation to the stolen vehicle that was recovered on Nov. 18:

  • Possession or property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Resisting arrest
  • Operate a motor vehicle while prohibited (x2)
  • Fail to comply with the condition of Release Order (x3)
  • Operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

White was remanded into police custody by a Justice of the Peace following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on December 23.
