Lakeland Catholic School Division is pleased to announce Katelynne Ringuette as their nominee for the 2020 Edwin Parr Teacher Award.

Katelynne is a first-year teacher at École Notre Dame High School in Bonnyville, Alberta.

She teaches Grade 9 and 10 English Language Arts; Grade 9 Social Studies, Religious Education and Physical Education.

She is also a proud alumna of Lakeland Catholic.

The Edwin Parr Award recognizes outstanding first-year teachers in Alberta.

School divisions annually nominate an exceptional first year teacher for this award.

Every year the Alberta School Boards’ Association (ASBA) honours six exemplary teachers in Alberta with this award.

Recipients from each zone will be announced on May 22 and awards will be presented at the ASBA Fall General Meeting Nov.15-17.

What makes Katelynne’s instruction exemplary is the manner in which she engages students in their learning.

Through choice, reflection, critical thinking and synthesis, students are challenged to strive for excellence in every task.

Students can successfully articulate their growth, which continues to motivate them towards higher levels of achievement.

Katelynne’s ability to foster effective relationships is well aligned with her school’s vision, Education is for Life.

Katelynne has a truly genuine, caring, and nurturing disposition with her students.

She treats every student she encounters throughout her day with kindness and compassion, as a unique creation of God.

As an exceptional first year teacher, Katelynne seeks opportunities to share her gifts and talents with students, parents and the community.

She is heavily involved in extracurricular activities at her school.

She coaches junior varsity girls’ volleyball.

Possessing a Class 4 license, she often drives the bus for junior varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball games.

She is a faith leader in her school, parish and community.

Katelynne is involved in ministry at the Sunday evening Youth Mass at St. Louis Parish, she has led and organized a number of faith-based events and activities in her school.

This has helped her to build relationships that live out the vision of Lakeland Catholic Schools where Christ is our model and children our focus.

She is the lead teacher for her school on the Division’s Indigenous Education Committee (IEC) and she is her school’s TBAC (Teacher Board Advisory Committee) representative. As an alumna of 4-H, Katelynne has seized a new opportunity this year to become a judge for 4-H public speaking.

Lakeland Catholic School Division is proud of their 2020 Edwin Parr nominee and would like to thank Katelynne for her commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
