Fitting the Bill – Ducks Unlimited and Portage Students Collaborating Once Again

Portage College Natural Resources Technology (NRT) students are once again lending a helping hand at the annual Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) Prime Rib Valentines Dinner and Games Night. The students will be hosting and volunteering at the annual event on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Portage College’s Lac La Biche Campus. The event will provide the NRT students with the opportunity to fundraise for DUC as well as for them to attend a conference focused on land reclamation.

Tickets for the Valentines-themed fundraiser are only $50 a person and can be purchased online here or at the following locations: Lac La Biche Sporting Goods, Remax, Ace Hardware and Louis’ Car Wash. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 p.m.

The funds raised will go to the important work DUC does to support water, wetlands, wildlife and waterfowl, as well as connecting youth with nature. During the event, the NRT students will also fundraise in order to attend the Canadian Land Reclamation Association conference (CLRA) in Red Deer February 26-28.

“It’s a win-win partnership,” said NRT Instructor Chirs Conradie, noting that Portage students have helped at the event for several years. “Our students will be fundraising to attend the conference on reclamation in Red Deer and also gain experience volunteering for Ducks Unlimited by organizing and participating in an event.”

The conference for the NRT students will provide a great opportunity to gain knowledge and meet with potential employers and leaders in the industry. The students will be able to attend two full days of talks and a networking banquet while in Red Deer.

“This fundraising dinner is a great event for our students, DUC and you,” said Conradie. “It promises to be a great night – so don’t duck out!”
