Vermilion RCMP suspicious activity reported by public leads to arrest

On Jan 7, 2020 the Vermilion RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious male at business in Innisfree. Members attended the business and when they approached the subject it was determined that he was in a stolen Dodge truck. The male resisted arrest and attempted to flee. Police apprehended the suspect after a short foot-chase. After searching the suspect, police discovered a concealed weapon, methamphetamine and cocaine.

Police arrested 34-year-old Damien Mercer of Lloydminster and charged him with the following Controlled Drug and Substances Act and Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking X 2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime X 2
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Fail to comply with conditions

Mercer was remanded into custody to appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on January 13, 2020.

As the matter is before the court, no additional information will be released.
