Are you feeling stuck and not knowing how to advance in your career? It’s a common situation many people find themselves in when looking to start a new career or change their employment path. Career Evolution North is designed to help you gain meaningful employment where you can utilize your existing skills and qualifications.
Newly opened in Cold Lake, serving the Lakeland region, Career Evolution North is ready to help you, says supervisor Lorie Jacobsen. “We’re going to work to change that idea, that dream you had to enter a career path that you might not have thought was possible. We’re going to do what we can to change that and help you out.”
“You just need to show up,” Jacobsen explained there’s no appointments necessary. Open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
Who can use the services?
The friendly staff supports those individuals and highly skilled professionals who are having difficulty re-entering the workforce and/or transitioning to other industries or occupations.
Anyone 18 or older who is unemployed or underemployed, will qualify for the service. Preference is given to those on EI (Employment Insurance) or EI Reachback (have used EI in the last ten years) or those who are in threat of needing EI.
What they offer
Career Evolution North has computer banks for those needing access to a computer. “You can do your job search, résumés, career investigations or arrange to meet up with employers to see what the possible career looks like,” said Jacobsen. There are many tools and services available to aid in gaining employment at the centre.
Along with the computers, the centre’s team will assist in creating any documents needed for applying for a job; such as, a resume, cover letter, portfolio.

A two-way street
The network of helps doesn’t just go one way. Career Evolution North has a number of partner businesses that work with them, explained Jacobsen. “We had an employer come in last week and he needed several employees with certain types of skills, so that’s definitely on our forefront to look through any existing clients that we may have and try to match them up with the employer.”

Part of the EmployAbilities Network, Career Evolution North is on Cold Lake’s free public transport bus route, at #113 4910 50 Avenue. Appointments are not necessary, but if you would like some more information call (780) 201-7755 or (780) 201-7757.
For people who do not live in Cold Lake, there are other options to use Career Evolution North services. Jacobsen explained, “we are able to come to you. If we find that there’s a big need and you’re having a transportation issue, we can certainly make arrangements to meet in your own community.”
There will be a Grand Opening & ribbon cutting celebration on Monday, October 15th. Everyone is welcome to come check out the centre.
