Small Produced Water Leak at Canadian Natural Primrose East

On January 2, 2016, Canadian Natural identified and fully cleaned up a small volume of less than 1 litre of produced water released from a line within our Primrose East operations. The source of the release was stopped upon discovery and there is no environmental impact to waterbodies or wildlife.

We take every incident seriously and through our robust management systems, we are proactive and deliver continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance. Canadian Natural’s management systems ensure we evaluate, prevent and mitigate the risk of incidents occurring. Response plans are developed to predict the extent and magnitude of all risks.

Rare events, such as an equipment malfunction that results in an incident, are managed quickly in accordance to structured emergency  response plans. These procedures help manage the event as systematically and thoroughly as possible to mitigate any additional impacts and facilitate the return to normal operations in a timely manner.
