Cold Lake Alpine Ski Club to Host Elite Race in January

The Cold Lake Alpine Ski Club will be hosting 100-250 young ski racers in the City of Cold Lake for an elite race event to be held on Kinosoo Ridge Ski Resort. The resort, which officially opens for the season this upcoming weekend, will host the inaugural event January 30-31. Mayor of Cold Lake, Craig Copeland, says it’s exciting to see the sport grow in the City.

“We’re going to be the Double Black Diamond sponsor,” explains the Mayor, “we took the organizing committee up on their offer to be the main sponsor.” It was an easy decision for Council, who recognizes the economic return to the area major sporting event bring to Cold Lake. “In terms of hotels and restaurants, I think it’s a wise-money decision. We’re trying to help out the business community in Cold Lake, we’re proud to support the Alpine Ski Club,” states Mayor Copeland.

The Double Black Diamond sponsorship comes with an investment of $2,500 from the City, and will help welcome the racers to Cold Lake. “Our Council is a big supporter of Kinosoo Ridge Ski Resort, it’s pretty exciting!”

Ever promoting the City and its services, the Mayor says, “for the parents, that are going to come watch the kids, you can consider taking the transit bus.” The City announced a route to the ski hill last week, which has created a lot of excitement in the community. The fare for a ride via City transit to the hill is $5.00 and will begin service on weekends, starting this Saturday. For more information visit coldlake.com.
