Citizens Help Stop Impaired Driver & Prevent Vehicle From Being Stolen in St. Paul

Around 9:30 pm on Friday, November 13th, the St. Paul RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle that had struck the side of the 7-11 convenience store before reversing through the parking lot and getting stuck up against a street lamp.

Several witnesses saw an individual jump into an idling SUV as the owner went into the store.  The driver was pulled from the vehicle by concerned citizens as he was trying to get it unstuck from the light post.  The suspect was restrained by fire crews until RCMP arrived.

The suspect who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act is facing 10 charges under the Criminal Code and Traffic Safety Act.  Charges include, but not limited to: theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and four counts of breaching an existing youth probation order.

The youth was remanded into custody to await a bail hearing in St. Paul Youth Court on Thursday the 19th.
